Free powerpoint viewer

If you do not have powerpoint on your computer then you will need to download a free powerpoint viewer at this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=428D5727-43AB-4F24-90B7-A94784AF71A4 or you can google powerpoint viewer and choose the microsoft.com one. You will need a media player on your computer as well ..preferably windows media player which all of you should have Remember to ask for the jumpdrive from Santa...good stocking stuffer!!! Amy

General Info for NUR 235

Ask Santa for a 1-2G jump drive so that you can download your lectures. You can obtain them from Walmart or Staples ($20-24). If you have dial-up, then I recommend that you take your jumpdrive to a place that has high speed and download the lectures to your jump; then you can play them at home with ease. You will need to have windows media player to play the lectures which you should all have. We are only loading the files into blackboard one way, which is via windows media. So, you can (if you have high speed) right click the blackboard file and save onto your my documents and then burn to a cd or jump or play on your computer. We are not loading them in smaller files like flash files because you will not be able to save into my documents. We are not saving them in ipod files or in mp3 files. Once the file is downloaded, you can burn it to a jumpdrive or CD and do whatever you want. We will always post the powerpoint version without audio as well as the ones with audio so that you can print a copy and then listen with the paper in your hand if you want to and take notes. This is what you are used to in the regular classroom. I will be posting directions on how to obtain a password to the blackboard if you do not already have a HCC blackboard password in a later posting. Please continue to consult this site during break for announcements. I will be emailing out the second preceptor group names by Jan 2. You will still have 2 months to prepare. REMEMBER THAT CLASS STARTS FOR US ON WEDNESDAY JAN 9 AT 0900 FOR THE FIRST GROUP AT THE HIGH TECH CENTER AND AT 1300 FOR THE SECOND GROUP AT THE HIGH TECH CENTER. ALL STUDENTS MUST PLAN TO ATTEND LAB DAYS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF CLASS AT HCC CAMPUS. MORE WILL BE SAID ABOUT THIS ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. YOUR DOCUMENTS WILL BE POSTED FOR YOU TO COPY PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS ON BLACKBOARD.

Preceptor Information

I have emailed the preceptor assignments for the first 6 weeks. Please try to contact these people over break. Remember that you must do 24 hours a week for 4 weeks. The dates that are given are the Sundays of the weeks that you are to precept. I got emails bounced from Marki Braxton and Nikki Knight ( I retried yours). If you are in the first preceptor group and did not receive anything via the email that you gave me during the Welcome meeting please email me and let me know at aputnam@haywood.edu. I did not have an email address for Melanie Burrell, so please email me so that I can email you. Thanks! Amy

Haywood Regional Medical Center Background Checks

If you are attending a clinical rotation at Haywood Regional Medical Center in the spring, you need to complete their background check process before you return from the holiday break. If you have already submitted a background check in the past you DO NOT need to repeat the process at this time. To complete the process follow these instructions: The fee for the background check is $23.00, and can be ordered online. To order online, go to www.intellenet.netand click on [ENTER] to bring up login screen, then enter the following codes: Company ID = mednet User ID = RegionA Password = ak843nkx and double click [Login]. Enter information for previous 7 years into the form; enter credit card information and click [Submit] button. Note that amount is automatically set at $23.00. If no entry errors are found, a Card Processing screen appears. Please verify card information and click [Process] button only once. At this point a charge of $23.00 to your card will be submitted. If card is accepted, an Application Confirmation screen appears. Click on Print Application in the Confirmation box for a hardcopy of this transaction for your records. For security of your personal information, you MUST LOGOUT upon completion. Thanks Wendy Hines, RN, MSN

ATTENTION ALL NUR 235 STUDENTS

Please email me at aputnam@haywood.edu if you have dial-up computer access at home. I don't need you to email me if you have high speed (cable etc), just dial-up. Thanks Amy

ATTENTION ALL NUR 235 STUDENTS

Please follow these directions to gain access to blackboard for NUR 235. If you do not already have an HCC account for blackboard, you will gain access in January. You are responsible for printing all documents for this course. Here are the directions: For the TCCC and SCC Nursing students, please direct them to http://dl.haywood.edu/general/login/TCC_SCC.html If they follow the instructions on that page, we'll be able to create Blackboard accounts for them quite quickly. I suggest including the address on your syllabi, blog and any other documents that students might see early in the semester. Amy

Uniforms for Spring

I have had several students request the name and contact information of our uniform company. We use Castle Uniforms for our orders. Their contact number is 1-800-982-9860 or you may use their website: http://www.castleuniforms.com/. You will need to tell the company that you are a student in Region A Nursing Consortium to be able to order. Remember that the Region A uniform is the white dress uniform shirt and blue pants. Students may not wear the Region A polo's to an acute care clinical rotation. Our uniforms are a custom order and take 6 weeks for delivery, so please order soon to be ready for spring clinicals. If you have additional questions regarding uniforms please contact me. Wendy Hines, RN, MSN

Community Final

I have received some questions regarding the community final. I would like to clarify any information you may have heard. The community finals will not be the same test at all three schools due to each school covering different subject areas since the mid-term. The tests will all consist of 50 multiple-choice questions that will cover the topics your class has studied since the mid-term. If you did not use your notes on the mid-term you will be able to use any notes that you have taken in class or through your own studying of the objectives during the test. If your class used notes on the mid-term then you will not be able to use notes on the final. If you have additional questions please speak with your instructor. Wendy Hines RN, MSN

Nursing in the Community

The faculty has discovered a discrepancy in the administration of the midterm tests within the Nursing in the Community class among the three campuses. The faculty has discussed this issue and reached a decision regarding a proper course of action. The administration of the final will be changed as follows: 1-If your campus allowed open notes on the mid-term then your final will be closed notes. 2-If your campus did not allow open notes on the mid-term then your final will be open notes (not open book). If you have additional questions regarding this issue, please discuss them with your community instructor. Wendy Hines RN, MSN Nurisng Program Director
